Photo Scanning Services and Photo Restoration

These days there are a number of companies offering photo scanning and photo restoration as a service. The question is, is this something you really need or can you do it yourself? That depends. In the case of actually scanning your old photos, it is a pretty simple task. You simply take your hard copy of the photo, put it in the scanning window, hit scan, and wait for the process to complete. Then you do the same thing with the next one and the next one. While this is a pretty simple process if you have maybe ten to twenty photos, if you need to scan hundreds or even thousands of photos a photo scanning service may be a much better option.

When it comes to photo restoration and repair, that is a different situation altogether. While many of us have some basic Photoshop or photo editing skills, to do it right really requires an expert. There are so many factors to look at from simple fixes like removing red-eye to trying to restore faded photos to their original hues.

There are a number of companies that offer photo scanning services and photo repair and restoration. A few of the big ones include: Scancafe, Photobin and Digmypics. From my research I found that Photobin seemed to have the best pricing and service in terms of photo scanning and pricing, and Scancafe had the best options for restoration and repair, but their turnover is very slow, so if you are looking for restoration or repair and need it done right away I would go with Digmypics.
